No one knows exactly how many of these unreleased LEGO sets are out there even a search over at eBay does not even yield any positive result. After attaching the three wings, we add two layers of white plates and tiles on the top of the model. if ( notice ) 1 Just about all of the architectural buildings released thus far has deaths associated with them. There cannot have been such a tiny quantity produced just to service two dozen copies of this set, so there is presumably a batch of these bricks stored in a LEGO warehouse somewhere.

If you recall back in 2017, the LEGO Architecture Skyline subtheme had a particular set that never made it to the mainstream public. While the set was not released widely, copies of the set were produced by LEGO, and a total of 24 copies were sold at the two Lilliputs retail stores in South Africa.

The instructions in the stud.io file are identical in finished product, and at least very close in terms of the order of operations (I might have changed the order of some steps for the Wynn/Encore hotel).

Later that month, we learned that the set was being redesigned in response to a mass shooting event in October of the previous year at the Mandalay Bay Hotel, replacing it with a different building. Im rather disappointed that Im no longer the only person in the U.S. that has one. At the end of the day they released a set that was gonna remind everybody of the location of the tragedy.
Ive seen some builds using existing pieces. In step 37, we build the bottom floor of the hotel using another 11 Round Plate w/ hole (part 85861), also in 194Medium Stone GreyLight Bluish Gray. I strongly believe that the Bellagio was a better choice for a Las Vegas skyline set, because the building has a strong design, and its impossible to visit the Las Vegas Strip and not notice its choreographed fountain performances.
Why would LEGO even bother to produce the boxes (or ship them). I wished LEGO released this version of this set as I really like the citys skyline series.

It can be different for certain structures, depending on age and historical relevance. For a time, LEGO was very sensitive about this and asked us, and other sites, to remove images of the original set. I'm sure the whole process happened after the tragedy, so they would have time to not do all these things.

This gave me two opportunities to discover differences between the two versions of the model, and it gave me a chance to try Stud.io for the first time.
Best bet is to DIY and substitute the missing elements with another color.
It's not known why the set was available where it was, or whether other shops in the region also sold it. According to Tom, this set is not actually his but was provided to him to be reviewed. One of which I dont know which one to fix. This is so stupid. Since the store was not able to ship the set halfway around the world to Bobs home in Ohio, he asked Kerri if she would be willing to buy the six remaining sets, keep one as a thank you, and ship the rest to Bobs home. If you wanted to update the Stud.io file again, the clear 12 tile with the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign has been added into the application.
Apart from the lamentable circumstances in which this set has been connected to, it is commendable how this set introduces several new pieces that are believed to be only found in this set such as the Technic 3-Blade Rotor (32125) and the 1x2x1 Brick w/ 2 studs 1-side (32952), both in Pearl Gold colors that replicate the Mandalay Bay Hotels signature architecture. When Lego was ready to launch the set, they had no way of knowing what would happen in Las Vegas. It is an honor and privilege to play a role in sharing their story of kindness and generosity.
timeout I just don't need to see references to mass shootings on my visits to Lego sites.. tbh the Bellagio build looks way prettier than Mandalay Bay, and is a much more recognizable (in my eyes) Vegas landmark. The tragic events of that night in 2017 were awful and heartbreaking but that building shouldn't be remembered for just that it should be remembered for its greatness.

There was no reason at all to pull the set from being released. A bit more upsetting is the fact that the proportions arent quite right, with the LEGO model a few plates taller than it should be. Another significant difference is in the section projecting 4-studs backwards to hold the Luxor Pyramid; in this version it is covered in 26Black and 194Medium Stone GreyLight Bluish Gray Tiles for extra support, while it is hollow in the revised model. There is a really potentially disappointing aspect of this situation.
With very few other changes compared to the more widely distributed #21047 version, its not surprising that my objective assessment of #21038 is that it deserves the same ratingboth versions earned our modest Good (3/5 stars) rating. It was quite a sad day for LEGO Architecture fans, but it was a necessary step if LEGO will stay true to its core values of not depicting real-life violence in its toys. + There is one Light Bluish Grey Plate, Round 1 x 1 with open stud (part 85860) that has been recolored to White. Triggered by the unfortunate events of October, 2017s Mandalay Bay Hotel shooting, the LEGO Group deemed wise to cancel the impending release of the LEGO Architecture Las Vegas (21038), and was eventually replaced by a redesigned set that noticeably deviated from the original plan of including the famous hotel along the Las Vegas strip. It turns out that the original Las Vegas Skyline set, LEGO Architecture 21308 Las Vegas, did make it out of the factory.
At that time I bought the set from that person and Ive owned it ever since.

So for almost 2 years, we thought that this set does not eventually exist. This doesnt bother me too much since its common to reduce complexity while capturing the spirit of the original structure in a LEGO model.
I do not have an easy way to scan the instructions, and do not plan to try.
Lego saying we have an unfortunate and unintend release of a set that depicts the location of this tragedy but heres how we want to help by donating profits would have been a surprising and humane thing. Kerri was very new to LEGO and had no idea that the set was rare! I cant figure out how to build using Studio.
A horizontal white stripe appears near the bottom of the model, closely matching the real building.
I guess i like to live in a world where people and companies take their responsibilities and help out wherever they can, no matter how big or smallTo be clear though: Im not blaming Lego anything.
(Its possible that additional copies were sold at a different retailer, but its clear that very few copies were sold.) What is especially surprising is that two elements are in the set in Pearl Gold part 32125, Technic 3-Blade Rotor and part 32952, 1x2x1?
Lego was just avoiding any reputation issues with set replacement.
No one knows exactly how many of these unreleased LEGO sets are out there even a search over at eBay does not even yield any positive result. After attaching the three wings, we add two layers of white plates and tiles on the top of the model. if ( notice ) 1 Just about all of the architectural buildings released thus far has deaths associated with them. There cannot have been such a tiny quantity produced just to service two dozen copies of this set, so there is presumably a batch of these bricks stored in a LEGO warehouse somewhere.

That said, I found the building techniques used to build the Bellagio quite displeasingthe ugly clips and bars visible on the back of the model really detracted from my impressions of that version of this set. So, officially, 21038 Las Vegas never saw the light of day, and was replaced by 21047 Las Vegas which included the Bellagio resort instead.
Was disappointed when they changed it in the first place, but how on earth did these see the light of day?!? If you recall back in 2017, the LEGO Architecture Skyline subtheme had a particular set that never made it to the mainstream public. While the set was not released widely, copies of the set were produced by LEGO, and a total of 24 copies were sold at the two Lilliputs retail stores in South Africa.
I hope they keep it MISB.Did any of the pearl gold parts end up making it to Bricklink? Each wing is built using a ton of Pearl Gold pieces.

It would have been an insensitive option, no matter how you try to justify it by suggesting they donate the profits.
The instructions in the stud.io file are identical in finished product, and at least very close in terms of the order of operations (I might have changed the order of some steps for the Wynn/Encore hotel).
Your stud.io file is amazing thank you. Nonetheless, the 297Warm GoldPearl Gold exterior makes the Mandalay Bay Hotel an aesthetically pleasing addition to the model, which is sure to catch peoples attention.

I have no qualms with anyone making a profit reselling sets to a willing market in almost any other situation, but this is definitely one exception to that position. Set #21038 Las Vegas Skyline contained 487 pieces for a price of 39.99.

Later that month, we learned that the set was being redesigned in response to a mass shooting event in October of the previous year at the Mandalay Bay Hotel, replacing it with a different building. Im rather disappointed that Im no longer the only person in the U.S. that has one. At the end of the day they released a set that was gonna remind everybody of the location of the tragedy.
Ive seen some builds using existing pieces. In step 37, we build the bottom floor of the hotel using another 11 Round Plate w/ hole (part 85861), also in 194Medium Stone GreyLight Bluish Gray. I strongly believe that the Bellagio was a better choice for a Las Vegas skyline set, because the building has a strong design, and its impossible to visit the Las Vegas Strip and not notice its choreographed fountain performances.
Why would LEGO even bother to produce the boxes (or ship them). I wished LEGO released this version of this set as I really like the citys skyline series.

It can be different for certain structures, depending on age and historical relevance. For a time, LEGO was very sensitive about this and asked us, and other sites, to remove images of the original set. I'm sure the whole process happened after the tragedy, so they would have time to not do all these things.

It has not affected anyone. I was also motivated to re-create the model in LEGO CAD software, as this is an easy way to share the building instructions with a wider audience. ), Due to the difficulty in acquiring this set, and the natural desire to compare it to the updated version, this section is a bit different than most of our reviews.
If sets were released by mistake, that is not terrible, as long as the recipients just cherish them as rare sets.

Selling the Mandalay Bay version and donating every penny of profit to the victims families would have shown real empathy and care from the Lego company.
Tom at Brick Architect was trying to do a review/story about this set with a person in S. Africa in September/October of last year. I managed to get my hands on one of these, but sold it to one of the bigger Lego blogging sites. I am grateful to Bob and Kerri for providing a copy of the set for me to review.

With a release date slatted for January 31, 2018, this version of the LEGO Architecture Skylines Las Vegas was never officially released and recalled by LEGO prior to any wide spread release. He explained that in July 2018, he saw photos of #21038 in a retail store on Instagram.
@Mr. Thrawn I saw, but I can be creative. This story is incomplete without thanking Bob and Kerri for providing a copy of this extremely rare set for me to review. Since Mandalay Bay Hotel is a better LEGO model, but its based on a less interesting building than the Bellagio, the two models feel about equal in overall quality.

Lego quietly replacing the set was the sensible option, I'm sure the vast majority would never have known the Mandalay was ever scheduled to be included, and by the sounds of the request to remove the original images that was the intention.Obviously it must have been advanced enough in the production run for there to be a warehouse full somewhere and they are slowly getting disposed away from core markets. November 6, 2019: I updated the building instructions to use the 18 black tile with Las Vegas printed on it, and re-rendered the image shown below.
The biggest differences appear on the far left end of the base.
The rest of the 297Warm GoldPearl Gold exterior is comprised of just three unique parts: 11 Plates (part 3024), 12 Tiles (part 3069), and 1x2x1 Brick w/ 2 studs 1-side (part 32952).

Am I the only one who feels uncomfortable about Toms review and the prominent place that his review got on Bricksets home page? Since then, only two sets were cancelled before widespread release.

This gave me two opportunities to discover differences between the two versions of the model, and it gave me a chance to try Stud.io for the first time.
Best bet is to DIY and substitute the missing elements with another color.
It's not known why the set was available where it was, or whether other shops in the region also sold it. According to Tom, this set is not actually his but was provided to him to be reviewed. One of which I dont know which one to fix. This is so stupid. Since the store was not able to ship the set halfway around the world to Bobs home in Ohio, he asked Kerri if she would be willing to buy the six remaining sets, keep one as a thank you, and ship the rest to Bobs home. If you wanted to update the Stud.io file again, the clear 12 tile with the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign has been added into the application.
Apart from the lamentable circumstances in which this set has been connected to, it is commendable how this set introduces several new pieces that are believed to be only found in this set such as the Technic 3-Blade Rotor (32125) and the 1x2x1 Brick w/ 2 studs 1-side (32952), both in Pearl Gold colors that replicate the Mandalay Bay Hotels signature architecture. When Lego was ready to launch the set, they had no way of knowing what would happen in Las Vegas. It is an honor and privilege to play a role in sharing their story of kindness and generosity.
timeout I just don't need to see references to mass shootings on my visits to Lego sites.. tbh the Bellagio build looks way prettier than Mandalay Bay, and is a much more recognizable (in my eyes) Vegas landmark. The tragic events of that night in 2017 were awful and heartbreaking but that building shouldn't be remembered for just that it should be remembered for its greatness.
Looking back to the 2010 LEGO Progress Report, it included a section titled Guideline for weapons and conflict in LEGO experiences It included the following excerpt: The basic aim is to avoid realistic weapons and military equipment that children may recognize from hot spots around the world and to refrain from showing violent or frightening situations when communicating about LEGO products.

It does not come as a surprise if LEGO has this set planned ahead long before the unfortunate shooting took place.

Let's not forget that the building itself did not commit the crime That's going to be a real collector's item, easily north of $1000.

There was no reason at all to pull the set from being released. A bit more upsetting is the fact that the proportions arent quite right, with the LEGO model a few plates taller than it should be. Another significant difference is in the section projecting 4-studs backwards to hold the Luxor Pyramid; in this version it is covered in 26Black and 194Medium Stone GreyLight Bluish Gray Tiles for extra support, while it is hollow in the revised model. There is a really potentially disappointing aspect of this situation.
With very few other changes compared to the more widely distributed #21047 version, its not surprising that my objective assessment of #21038 is that it deserves the same ratingboth versions earned our modest Good (3/5 stars) rating. It was due to the tragic shooting that occurred involving the Mandalay Bay Hotel, which was one of the buildings in the original version.

This guy is my hero. It was quite a sad day for LEGO Architecture fans, but it was a necessary step if LEGO will stay true to its core values of not depicting real-life violence in its toys. + There is one Light Bluish Grey Plate, Round 1 x 1 with open stud (part 85860) that has been recolored to White. Triggered by the unfortunate events of October, 2017s Mandalay Bay Hotel shooting, the LEGO Group deemed wise to cancel the impending release of the LEGO Architecture Las Vegas (21038), and was eventually replaced by a redesigned set that noticeably deviated from the original plan of including the famous hotel along the Las Vegas strip. It turns out that the original Las Vegas Skyline set, LEGO Architecture 21308 Las Vegas, did make it out of the factory.
At that time I bought the set from that person and Ive owned it ever since.

The photos were taken by Kerri, who purchased the set for 699.99 South African Rand (about $50) at Lilliputs, a retail store in Johannesburg, South Africa. I liked the original design of the Las Vegas set and had planned to MOC a version of the Mandelay Bay hotel just for my own satisfaction--but now I know that the 21038 set really exists, can I ever consider my Skyline collection complete without it?
