I think if you were to purchase one of these for the metallic qualities alone I would go with the newly formulated regular Metallic Pencils. One advantage that the regular metallics had was that the lighter colors, like silver, layered over top of the other colors well and was really opaque. I purchased the set of 12 of the reformulated Metallic colored pencils and the set of 12 water-soluble pencils. That said, Im not sure if the product packaging is different depending on the country its available in. Pewter, Gold, Antique Gold, Bronze, Copper, Metallic Yellow, Metallic Red, Colors include: Silver, They work best on a dark background (try Derwent Black Books) and can be used on their own or with other media to add brilliant definition and glowing highlights. The regular metallics blended fairly well but I found it was really hard to distinguish much contrast between hues. I think these might be slipping into my traveling craft kit, too! I also used some of those staturated colors as a wash for the background.
