We were lucky that the church was open and couldnt pass up going inside. The winds had died down and the ship was stuck off Positanos coast. We looked at another private van tour but it started at 11 AM and didnt give us enough time to explore as we wanted. Most famous is the Sentiero degli Dei, or Path of the Gods, which runs for 4.8 miles from hilltop Agerola to Nocelle, just above Positano. It was fun to look closely at the figures to see what they were up to. Can you see why this is also called the vertical town? These two spots were once only accessible on foot along the Sentiero degli Dei trail from Agerola or the long staircase which climbed up the hillside from Positano. This sea cave glows blue in the sunshine, with a tiny entrance thats only accessible by rowing boat. Itll allow you to stop at some viewpoints and customize an itinerary. Over 600,000 people live on the slopes aroundVesuvius, which became Vesuvio National Park in 1955. We loved the bus trip and have total respect for the drivers who do an amazing job. The seaside views were incredible. We didnt get the chance to go inside but there is a small museum and a Cloister of Paradise filled with medieval murals, historic art, marble sculptures and a Mediterranean garden. #TheWeeklyPostcard. There are also local SITA buses which connect Sorrento with Positano, Praiano and Amalfi, and you can change in Amalfi for the bus to Ravello. It did not disappoint. Many posts Ive read discouraged it and I would have been a nervous wreck with my husband driving this road. You can buy tickets at the newsstand inside the train station or they may have someone set up by the bus stop. It has a beautiful and unique exterior with an Arab influence and mosaics. The one main road from Sorrento to the Amalfi coast can get really crowded and have heavy car traffic during the summer months. During May-October, ferries also operate from Sorrento to Amalfi and take about an hour or from Sorrento to Positano for about 40 minutes. My kids werent leaving this area without getting their daily dose of gelato. The journey takes around an hour and costs 24 each way. Theres a choice of regular (30-minute) and fast (20-minute) ferries which cost around 20 each way. I had our hotels booked and then we suddenly decided we wanted something new and exiting and went to the Balkans. Youd love this beautiful area. Its a good idea to get a guide or audio guide hearing the stories of life in Pompeii really helps bring these extraordinary ruins to life. It was a great way to entertain passersby especially kids. We didn't have a lot of time either but I quite liked it lots of beautiful buildings but definitely a bit scruffy too, reminded me of Catania in Sicily.
