The exhaust side of the pump must be plumbed into a breather tank that cam be drained periodically.

It has never had to work yet. Paul i'm thinking where you have the hose on the v/c could be the issue.if your getting a lot of oil up top and have to brake hard at the track it would'nt take long to get that much oil in the tank.i never got any with my 526 but the 605 oils the top a little more and in the few passes i made with it i noticed a little oil in the tank.

I have a 440 mopar with a vacuum pump, I had issues with it blowing oil out the puke tank breather in a 1/4 run. 0 : start;

In my case, using a Star tank..it goes from the tee to stage 1 of the Star, goes to the pump, then back to stage 2 of the Star tank where it exhausts. At the other end of the same valve cover make a baffled vacuum draw source but with a significantly smaller hose or csa. They are designed for use on valve covers that do not have breather holes or when an extra one is required in a different location.

The baffle can be tack welded to an aluminum valve cover but only after you have raced the vehicle and are satisfied with the position. On my 605 I was spinning the vacuum pump pretty hard.

After all that I get about 3 ounces each run out of the tank. Drill a 1 hole in valve covers and weld in! I know I have never had an issue with any Indy head breather set up, provided it pulls from the top of the cover I also recommend the Star regulator, I use one with my Moroso enchanced 4 vane.

I ended up not using the regulator -- because with the pulley I chose the pump would only pull 10 psi max. Here is a picture of my plumbers nightmare.

That little corner of the valve cover seems to work well except for tight clearance on the right side using a 1.8 rocker on an A head.

If you mount the relief valve in the opposite valve cover, what you are essentially doing is allowing all the relief air to pass through the engine.

Depending on where is valve cover breathers are or will be located in his valve covers, the effectiveness of the baffles from location will matter.

Also don't use the dipstick, have a tube, but it has a rubber cap I can take off to check the oil.
