Needless to say, you are far more likely to have this one to yourself, even in high season.
The Cuore di Mattoni (Heart of Bricks) is one of the best hidden gems of the Castello sestiere. It remains home to the throne of St. Peter (interesting), a pretty little garden (pleasant) and a very cool Renaissance bell tower that appears to be leaning from certain angles. In fact, I still refuse to believe it isnt why would my eyes lie to me? It is lined with small shops, fantastic bars and lovely cafes that have a unique atmosphere. The bathroom is big enough and it's top of the state.

Reachable by vaporetto from Castello or Cannaregio, its attractions comprise a proper sandy beach, art deco architecture, and a clutch of good restaurants. A plus: it is based closed to Arsenale: you can take vaporetto to go everywhere you like. Acqu Alta, which means high water, is like the home of a reformed hoarder who promised himself just books, nothing but books, then proceeded to pack every available space with them until it was impossible to move (except just enough to get a few kitschy photos for your feed). Running neck and neck with Cannaregio for the most real and local of the sestieri, Castello boasts many excellent trattoria and unique art. Of course, it has now been renovated to make it a more practical home for Venezia FC, they of the subjectively coolest uniforms in European football. Next to the church of San Pietro, there is a lovely garden, where locals tend to sit, read, talk and enjoy the day. Via Garibaldi has a selection of 'normal' shops and bars and a local feel.
Would definitely stay here again and recommend to anyone who wants a relaxing spa vacation in Venice! Try to find Corte Botera, a little medieval courtyard hidden away below the level of later streets. Take your photo underneath the gurning (or diseased?) It's modern with some industrial touches. If there happens to be a special exhibition or festival, take your chance, because most of the time youll get a simple, disgusted shake of the head if you try to explore too close to any of the warehouses or workshops. Hotel Indigo Venice - Sant'Elena is a former Venetian convent with well-kept gardens, offering charming rooms with modern design and a LCD 40-inch TV. It is on a side street and usually filled with locals. Excellent location. El Refolo and Trani are a couple of wine bars that come highly recommended. Al Ponte Antico in Cannaregio is the only hotel with a terrace offering a view of the Rialto Bridge. If you are looking for a room with a view, look no further. However, even though it is a fashionable path, the Riva Degli Schiavoni (riva translates as waterfront) it is wide enough to make for a relaxing walk and the views are fantastic. Still a working monastery, silence is required at all times, making it that much easier to enjoy the simple beauty of its spacious interior, the huge stone pilasters (square wall columns) and pair of lovely courtyards. Eastern Castello is one of the only parts of Venice's historic centre which actually has its own residential character; it's larger than the ordinary pockets of housing you'll find elsewhere. Truly picturesque, it is known for its narrow alleys, handful of nice buildings, one impressive church and very few tourists. A former republic built on the water, Venice has been inspiring imitations for centuries; there are at least twenty contestants for Venice of the East/South/North/Tropics, and the name immediately conjures up visions of show-stopping architecture and romantic gondola rides along canals. From the hotel we can view one of the most beautiful sunsets and is close to the most top points of Venice. Murano is just north of Venice proper, reachable via a short vaporetto ride from Cannaregio. While not as convenient to most tourist sites, the Hotel Indigo Venice -SantElena will let you truly experience the Castello sestiere and its authentic feeling. Bar Mio, just across from Il Nuovo galleon, is a small and intimate bar, where guests can explore authentic Venetian culture. Though Jews have lived in Venice since the 12th century, medieval Venice gave persecuted Jews fleeing from elsewhere in Europe an area of their own, with the proviso of a sunset curfew. West of San Marco and across the Grand Canal via the famous Rialto Bridge, San Polo is packed with beautiful churches and is home to some of Venices best restaurants as well as a bustling produce market. The Church of San Pietro di Castello, which is located on the island of San Pietro, is home to the famous throne of St. Peter. Needless to say, you are far more likely to have this one to yourself, even in high season.
The Cuore di Mattoni (Heart of Bricks) is one of the best hidden gems of the Castello sestiere. It remains home to the throne of St. Peter (interesting), a pretty little garden (pleasant) and a very cool Renaissance bell tower that appears to be leaning from certain angles. In fact, I still refuse to believe it isnt why would my eyes lie to me? It is lined with small shops, fantastic bars and lovely cafes that have a unique atmosphere. The bathroom is big enough and it's top of the state.

Located in the southern part of Venice and separated from San Polo and Dorsoduro by the Grand Canal, San Marco is the oldest and grandest part of the city where youll find the Piazza San Marco surrounded by iconic architecture. You can enjoy breakfast in the privacy of your room or in the peaceful garden. Reachable by vaporetto from Castello or Cannaregio, its attractions comprise a proper sandy beach, art deco architecture, and a clutch of good restaurants. A plus: it is based closed to Arsenale: you can take vaporetto to go everywhere you like. Acqu Alta, which means high water, is like the home of a reformed hoarder who promised himself just books, nothing but books, then proceeded to pack every available space with them until it was impossible to move (except just enough to get a few kitschy photos for your feed). Try the pistachio pesto and the fresh seafood. Breakfast delivered to the room was very delicious. It is worth it! Running neck and neck with Cannaregio for the most real and local of the sestieri, Castello boasts many excellent trattoria and unique art. Look for the runes carved into one of the lions outside the Arsenale, and read up on his dramatic history. Weve always gotten along so well. Of course, it has now been renovated to make it a more practical home for Venezia FC, they of the subjectively coolest uniforms in European football.
