Holding Celestron Ultima 8x56's. What tripod are you using? celestron 8x56 skymaster The Manfrotto 190 tripod looks very nice, but is a bit expensive for what I need (about 200ish on Amazon at the moment?).

Just looking again at the RDF bracket do you think this would be strong enough to support a pair of 15 x 70s?,it does look a bit on the thin side. Thanks, Although the 10x50 and 10x42 sizes are thought of as the minimum sizes for astronomy binoculars, it's not until you get to 15x models that you enter the realm of astronomy-only binoculars.
On the bright side i've gone up market and sent for a Red Snapper RS283 tripod instead, which should be 100% better FYI: The Bino to tripod adapter that comes with the 15x70 is not the best (very twisty). The tripod is very stable unless I fully extend the center part. When used with binoculars, the tripod is extended to nearly its maximum height and the column will be extended as well. It doesn't need to be carbon fiber or anything fancy like a Manfrotto, just sturdy enough to hold binoculars. I like the Bogen 501HDV, or whatever new model has replaced it by now.
Copyright 2021 Stargazers Lounge I've noticed that my arms are shaking quite a bit when using them, and I'd now like to get a tripod. It's 78" tall and better for those 6' or taller. As a small point, I would extend the lower legs before raising the centre column if possible. Pointed north we also managed to glimpse the M81 and M82 galaxies, which are just out of range of smaller binoculars. I have really enjoyed observing the moon and jupiter over the past week with them. I ended up getting the Barska solid metal binocular tripod adapter off Amazon and an Orion Paragon HD-F2 tripod off Amazon. I hold them at the end of the lenses. There are others but these generally are tall enough and rated for 26 pounds and sufficiently stable. It is very stable. Can track in alt/az mode using separate controls to the tripod, and vibrations settle in seconds - thoroughly recommended. Been out tonight with the Celestron 15x70's mounted on the Triton Ballhead Grip and the Red Snapper tripod and glad to report that it works really well! What you don't get on these binoculars is the waterproofing, nitrogen-purging and proprietary XLT coatings that Celestron uses on their Skymaster Pro lineup. Sometimes you have to raise the centre column to avoid the handle attached to the head hitting the legs, so is it possible to put the handle into different positions on the head? There was a problem. Well, i'm just about to get these bino's too, but have opted to try a much cheaper tripod, the Hama Star 63, which is 15:30 on Amazon at the moment! Ah. With the David Hinds Alt/Az tripod I think max height is only 45 inches so not really suitable for binos. I use a s/h camera tripod with mine (23 from Jessops sale) which on it's own is useless - vibrations, awkward to lock/unlock/move etc. The shoulder bag is just about enough to keep these binoculars away from the elements, but do bear in mind that the binoculars are not waterproof and that the caps on the objective lenses and both flimsy and fall-off too easily. I have a Bogen 3011, you can find them used for less than $150.
I also added a Giotto 190cm long monopod which, I use regularly on the binos and allow me to regulate the hight so I can even look at zenit while standing.
